My son Zachary struggled with addiction for years after college- He began using drugs his final year at Columbia University and was in real trouble after graduating. We tried multiple inpatient rehabs, psychiatrists, and therapists to no avail.
Tommy helped care for Zachary for years at a sober living facility in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. After several emergency room visits and close calls/overdoses, my husband and I agree that Zachary may well be dead without Tommy's help. No one previously provided the sustained attention and support that Tommy afforded our son over years of treatment. No one can promise a "cure" from this disease, but your best chances rest with trusting Tommy.
SC NYC is a serious tool for anyone looking for help in their recovery. I worked closely with the founder Tommy early in my own sobriety. He is a strong and supportive professional who was truly vital to my recovery. I would highly recommend to anyone who wants to make a positive change in their life.
I’m not one to write reviews—and it’s taken me a while to write this one—but if there is ever a person who deserves accolades it’s Tom McAlinden. “Desperate” doesn’t even begin to describe how bad-off things were when we found Tom. He stepped-in as a voice of competence and calm when we were anything but that. Although it took us some time to get our “young professional” child into rehab (which included nearly a week of detox), I don’t know how we would have made that journey without Tom and the wonderfully kind and caring professionals who work with him. While we have learned how to take things one day at a time, we remain grateful for each sober day and the people who helped us to get there. Thank you, Tom!
It is my pleasure to recommend Tommy McAlinden. He did an exceptional job as the sober companion for a patient who had recently left rehab and needed a transitional step before living on his own.
To say that I am grateful for Tommy being a sober companion for my husband is an understatement. I didn't know how we were going to get my husband to rehab after detoxing in the hospital and did not know a sober companion was an option until someone in the hospital suggested it...
I have known Tommy for at least 5 years. My experience of him is most strickingly of his overall professionalism in his style with clients. He treats them with respect and care...
For the past two years while my son has been a client at a sober house in Williamsburg, Tommy McAlinden, in his many roles as house manager, interventionist, sober companion, watchdog, and parent liason, has been indispensable. He is tough, kind, funny, smart and a model of recovery...
Tommy was a sober companion to our young adult son about five years ago. Having a sober companion was a tough reality for our son and not something he wanted at the time. Tommy helped ease those tensions by being a calm, steady, supportive companion.

Tommy is extremely knowledgeable in the recovery field. With over 23 years of sobriety he is more than qualified in helping people get and stay sober. He has been my AA sponsor since I first got sober 3 years and 8 months ago. He was always there for me and always gives me the motivation and coping mechanisms I need to stay sober. I recommend him to anyone trying to get into recovery. He is suited for people of all age groups as well. I have seen him work with young and older people successfully. Tommy is one of the main reasons I am still sober to this day. I can trust him with anything and feel comfortable talking to him about anything. If you are looking to get sober and live a better life I highly suggest using Tommy.
Professional. confidential, experienced and continues to provides a life saving service!!
I was desperately in need of help for my alcohol addicted son who was spiraling downward towards an early grave. Constant drinking leading to numerous ambulatory trips to the emergency room including one OD was a common occurrence. I felt hopeless and terrified. Finding Tommy was such a blessing. He was able to communicate with my son and convince him to go to detox and then to rehab. He even drove my son to detox. Tommy is kind and caring with a sincere devotion to help anyone conquer their addiction. He is an amazing person with an unparalleled talent for communicating with an addicted individual.
Tommy genuinely cares not only for the person he is helping but also for the family members who are also suffering. Tommy will be there when my son is out of rehab and will walk along side of him down the path of sobriety as long as needed.
I’ve had the good fortune to work with Sober Companion NYC since May 2019. The President, Tommy McAlinden, has always gone above and beyond to help me when I needed help staying sober. He responds to calls or texts promptly, and has a calm, professional manner. Thanks to his 26 years of sobriety, he has the knowledge and compassion to be of real help to those struggling. I highly recommend this company if you or your loved one needs assistance with sobriety.
Tommy came to the rescue within hours of a call for help with a tricky situation --we needed a sober companion willing to quarantine with our son for five days after he may have been exposed to Covid and couldn't go back to Williamsburg House due to the risk of exposing others. I was impressed with the fact that they had someone available so quickly, and I was impressed by the attention my son also received from Tommy himself. Very thankful.
